Messi leaving barcelona

It’s the worst news a Barcelona fan can hear and exciting for many football enthusiast while maybe surprising for some. Arguably the  greatest ever player in football world “Lionel Messi” has decided to leave Barcelona. This is mainly due to the failure of Barcelona board to setup a solid project for years – hefty transfers, offloading of key players for maintaining balance sheet etc. Barcelona has failed to win Champions League since 2015 and this year they suffered their worst ever defeat to Bayern Munich. They also failed to win any trophies in 2020. The humiliating defeat to Bayern in UCL ad their trophy-less  season are the prime reasons Messi has decided to leave the club.

Reports in Spain suggest Lionel Messi handed Barcelona board a formal request to leave the club on a free. Lionel Messi had a clause in his contract that allows him to leave on a free at the end of any LaLiga season. Messi handed the transfer request in August – technically end of season. But the situation is pretty tricky – Barcelona board may argue that this year is an exemption due to Covid-19 pandemic hence the season has been extended. Which means Messi won’t be able to leave on a free but on his release clause. The Release Clause of Messi is €700 million which is nearly 6000 crore rupees. Apart from the release clause Messi also sits big on paybills. It’s a very big-big price to pay and very few clubs in the world can afford it. The very first club in the line to sign Messi and afford his clause is Manchester City. Recent developments and reports suggest that Messi had a call with Guardiola (Man city Manager) and he is already on his way to Premier League. Here are latest developments on Messi’s Transfer saga.
