47 Clones of Chinese Apps Banned, PUBG Mobile on radar of Indian Govt

Published

on

PUBG Mobile

Indian Government on Friday banned 47 apps, which are clones of the applications banned earlier on June. ame of these apps are not disclosed yet. There are many apps with names, functionalities as well as operational ethics similar to the 59 banned Chinese apps all such apps are under the scanner. Some of the banned apps are TikTok Lite, Hello Lite, and ShareIt Lite.

The Central government had banned 59 Chinese Apps on June 29 including some popular Chinese apps such as TikTok, ShareIt, UCBrowser, Club Factory, shein and CamScanner for the security purpose. After giving its decision publicly through a press release the government had ordered the telcos to block access to all those apps as well as their related websites as soon as possible. It also directed Apple and Google to remove the banned apps from their respective app stores in the country.

According to reports, the government has listed 275 Chinese apps and will keep an eye on them; actions will be taken if there is any violation in terms of national security and user privacy. The Union electronics and information technology ministry in an interim order on 29 June said that the apps were engaged in activities that are ‘prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, and security of state and public order’. The ministry sent a list of 79 questions to these banned apps and gave them three-weeks’ time to respond, failing which will lead to their permanent ban. This step was taken when the tension between the border of India and China increased and that led to 20 Indian Army personnel being killed on June 15.

Will PUBG Mobile get Banned?

It is believed that PUBG Mobile which is one of the most popular gaming applications would be a part of the new list of banned apps. The Indian Govt is inspecting about 275 Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile, AliExpress, Resso etc for possible privacy and security violations.

However, unlike other apps PUBG Mobile is not entirely Chinese. That could be the saving grace for this game. It was developed by subsidiary company of  South Korea: Bluehole. Later on, Chinese company Tencent joined hands with Bluehole to handle distribution of the game in China and other countries.

Because the game is being run by Tencent which is a Chinese company many are fearing that  it might get banned. PUBG Mobile is quite a popular mobile game in India especially among the youth and teenagers. Around 1million users will be affected if it gets a ban alongside suspension of many Esport tournaments ongoing. Careers PUBG Mobile professionals is going to be affected surely. We’ll see new developments in upcoming week. The government is yet to release the details.
